"If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician.  I often think in
music.  I live my daydreams in music.  I see my life in terms of music...I get
most joy in life out of music."

Passion For Piano
From the start, playing piano has allowed me to express my innermost feelings, happy or sad, powerful or delicate, despairing
or uplifting. A relationship between my piano and me evolved throughout this learning experience, enabling me to see the world
in a different way. It's why I love piano.

Interestingly enough, I didn’t start to play until I was 27 years old. But for whatever reason, the desire to play was always
there.  Maybe the opportunity wasn’t there, or perhaps I accepted previous standards of thought that “you can only learn to
play as a child.”  When I began to think differently and realized that I can express myself in whatever way I want, I began to
enjoy an entire world of sonorous expression.

This awakening occurred after I was in the army, fought in the Vietnam War, and had six years experience on the police
department in Terre Haute, Indiana. I heard jazz pianist Lenny Wilson play when he came to Terre Haute. When I saw the
power and intensity with which he played, I was inspired to commit myself to the piano. I began to take private piano lessons
and continued playing throughout my years as a police officer.  Lenny was my inspiration and became my friend and mentor as
I was learning and growing in musicianship.

After completing over 20 years on the police department, I began my education at Indiana State University and gained an
enriching experience in music history and piano technique.  While there, I learned of the sonata form and sonorities of the great
composer Beethoven, and the melodious notes of Chopin, who gave us poetic etudes, as well as many others who have shared a
wealth of style and harmonies.  Dedicated teachers such as Dr. Beverly Simms and Dr. Janet Lyman taught piano pedagogy,
while sharing their expertise with the piano.

Piano has afforded me much self-expression, joy, and special relationships with others throughout my musical experience. It is
my passion to share piano technique with children and adults, which is highly rewarding and meaningful. Teaching  affords me
the joy of seeing others enjoy the language of music for the very first time, and it’s all done with the piano. My passion for
playing piano continues and is still growing. Now living in Richardson, Texas, I am teaching piano to students of all ages.
